Creative Keema

Addison and Makenna were playing with a toy barn and a bunch of farm animals. I overheard Addison. "Wow! Keema you put a horsie on my arm! That is very creative!"

So, this is what's in Heaven?

On the way home from church, we pass another church with a sign that has a picture that Addison thinks is of Heaven and points it out nearly every time we drive by. I asked her how does she know what Heaven looks like? She replied, "It has a big roof, and heaven is a rectangle! Also, there is a big, big, big, huge bed and lots and lots of little beds!" Me: "Why are there all those little beds?" Addison: "For all the little kids!"

God's Great Provision

After about a month in Oklahoma, I decided I wanted to get out and work for a little bit. Due to very expensive child care options, we decided it might be best for me to work in a daycare or preschool to help cut some of the costs. Addison was VERY excited to be going back to school. Before we went to the first one, we made sure to pray together for wisdom about the school. When we went to tour the daycare and to inquire about employment options, Addison got very excited about it and really wanted to go there. There wasn't an opening, plus there were some other things involved, so it wouldn't work out. Addison got the idea that we were definitely going there and got really excited. When we got into the car, I told her that we couldn't go to that school. She started crying and said, "But we asked Jesus! Jesus told us no?" I explained Jesus can tell us no, but whenever He does, He always will give us something that's even better than what we could have ever asked. A few months later, I walked into a place on a Friday and left my name and number. I got a phone call the next Monday with them wanting to hire me. This place is an actual school, not just a daycare. They use A Beka Book and learn much more than they would have at any of the other daycares. She even gets to learn Spanish! I prayed with Addison about us finding the best school for her to go to and for me to work in. After she got to tour the school and meet the teacher, as I was putting her into her car seat, she asked, "Do I get to go to this school?" I replied, "Yes!" After that, she got a great big smile on her face, looked straight up and said, "Jesus! You said yes! Thank you so much!" We were able to talk about how this school was so much better than any we looked at and how happy we were that He didn't say yes to the first school. It was such an incredible lesson for her to observe.

Umm, Mommy?

Addison and I were baking banana bread the other night and I was letting her taste some of the ingredients before mixing them. I gave her some brown sugar and asked what it tasted like. She replied "Good". I then asked, "No, does it taste salty, sour, sweet, bitter, or umami?" She said, "Umami!" Me: "Why does it taste umami?
Addison: "Because it's ummm, and you're mommy!"

What was she thinking?

Addison was playing on the floor and Makenna walked by with a toy in her hand and accidentally tapped Addison on the head with it. Addison came tattling to me that Keema hit her. I saw it and said it was an accident and to go back and play. She went back right to where Keema was playing and got hit in the head again. Again, she tattled to me. I told Addison that maybe it would be a good idea to not play where Keema is swinging a toy around. She left to play, then came back immediately and complained that Keema's scratching her head. I said, "So?" Addison replied, "But she's scratching her head like she's thinking, 'Hmm, maybe I will hit my sister'!" I couldn't say anything because I was laughing too hard.

Addison's new haircut

Addison needed a new haircut. When we asked her how short she wanted it, she said she wanted it cut to her ears. She was such a big girl and wanted to go back with the sylist all by herself. I went back for the first little bit and observed Addison telling the stylist exactly how she wanted her hair to look. The stylist noticed Addison had a tangle on the side of her head and asked her about it. Addison said, "Yep, that's my yogurt!" As I left, I could hear Addison telling the stylist all about her favorite kinds of yogurt. It's probably not the typical conversation a stylist has. Her haircut looked really cute by the way.

Jesus is the boss!

Addison was talking about how she gets scared in storms. I asked her if she knew what happened in the Bible when the disciples were scared in a storm. She said, "Yes, Jesus told the wind to be quiet and it did. He's the boss!"

Addison is awesome!

Addison has been struggling with going poo-poo on the potty, so when she does we make a big deal out of it. One day when she went, I told her she was really awesome. She then looked straight up and screamed, "Jesus! Did you hear that? I'm awesome!" We tell her she can talk to God about anything, so I guess she does.

We're all nouns

Addison is now really interested in the parts of speech. She's got verbs down for the most part, but asked me if she was a verb. I reminded her that verbs are things we do, and nouns are people and things, so she is a noun. She got really excited and ran to Keema. She said, "Keema! I'm a noun and you're a noun! Did you notice that!"

Statue of Liberty

Several weeks ago, Addison went through a phase where she thought the Statue of Liberty was the best thing ever. She was talking about the Statue of Liberty one day, when she mentioned that the Statue of Liberty holds ice cream. I finally realized she was talking about the torch.

Pull-ups

We are just about done with the potty training with Addison. However, going out for extended periods of time concerns me regarding potential accidents. Because of this, as we were getting ready for a long day out, I told Addison that we were going to do Pull-ups because we were going to be gone for a long time. She said "No, Mommy, we aren't. I'm not going to wear Pull-ups, I'm going to wear a Pull-up. I'm just going to wear one, I'm not going to wear lots of them."

$6?

We were in the checkout line in Toys 'r Us the other day when Addison saw a set of pens she wanted. I told her she needed to use her allowance to pay for it. She didn't bring her allowance with her, but didn't have enough anyway. It was $5.99, but I told her it cost $6 and she would have to save her money and come back later. She looked right at the price tag and said, "But that's a 5". Then, she turned her head so she could look at the price tag upside down and asked, "Is that the six?" I really thought it would be a few years til she would start being too smart to believe everything we say.

New color?

Addison was coloring in a new coloring book and picked up a white crayon. She said, "Actually, this is dark white, but it looks like just white when I color."

Fishy with no name

Today, Addison got a fish at a preschool activity at church. I asked her what she was going to name it, and she said she wouldn't give him a name. I replied that he would probably be sad that he didn't have a name. She said, "That's o.k., he doesn't mind." I asked her how she would feel if Mommy and Daddy didn't give her a name, but just called her girl. She said "I will make up the name Addison for me, so then everyone has to call me Addison. Then I WILL have a name."

The disciples on the Discovery Channel

The show we were watching on the Discovery Channel ended, and the next show came on. It was Biggest Catch or Deadliest Catch or something like that. It was some dangerous fishing show. The opening credits showed a boat getting hit by a huge wave. Addison got so excited because the boosciples (disciples) were on T.V. I asked her what she was talking about, and Addison explained that the disciples were on a big boat and the storm came, but Jesus was underneath the boat. I guess since she learned about the disciples in the Bible, those guys just had to be the disciples. It didn't dawn on her that other people can catch fish in storms also.

Messed up Going

Addison was getting ready for bed after her bath and ran to Dan. She wasn't done yet, so I called her back and she had a major poochie lip. She moped, "I was going to Daddy and you messed up my going!"

Yesterday I was sitting on the couch and Addison saw a bag of chips next to me. I wasn't even eating them at the time, but she really wanted some. She walked up to me with a really big cute smile and said, "Daddy can I please have some chips I am beautiful!" I just busted out laughing.

A young person's guide to salvation

Addison and I were discussing something that led to talking about going to heaven/salvation. I told her that if she wanted to go to heaven, she needed to ask Jesus into her heart. She got a very worried look on her face and exclaimed, "But then He will stomp on my belly!"

This is what really happened to the dinosaurs. (Addison's version)

Addison was playing with a toy dinosaur and asked if one would eat her. I told her she would be fine because there were no more dinosaurs. She was still worried, so I told her they were all dead. She then asked, "They died on the cross?" I laughed and told her no. Then she asked "Did they die for our sins?" I'm glad she's understanding Christ and His sacrifice for us, but she still has a way to go.

Little Bo Peep and the lost spoon ???

So Addison was out in the living room the other day eating her cereal while Jen was getting ready. Jen came out and asked Addison to pick up her bowl and spoon and put it in the kitchen. Here is pretty close to how this conversation went...
Jen: "Addison you need to put your bowl and spoon in the sink so Makenna doesn't get the spoon cause it can hurt her."
Addison runs off to get it all and comes to Jen a few minutes later in a somewhat distressed mood.
Addison: "Mommy I can't find my spoon"
Jen: "Where did you put it?"
Addison: "I don't know..." gesturing with her hands
Jen: "Did you lose it?"
Addison: "I looked and looked and I can't find it anywhere! It is lost like little Bo Peep lost her sheep! It is lost!" gesturing with her hands and in a somewhat distressed/whining mood.

Addison is a big girl Song !!

Tonight Addison decided at about 9:30pm that she needed to go to the bathroom. After I finally went to get her out of bed she headed into the bathroom, put her potty seat on the toilet, stepped up on her stool, put both her hands on her hips and began to sing while looking in the mirror (at this point she was still dry)
"Addisons a big girl! Addisons a big girl! Such a very big girl!"
I had to step aside cause I was laughing so hard, but then it gets better. She stops singing and comes walking over to me with a new pullup in hand and says "Daddy" (with a really sad face) "I already went in my diaper cause I was singing".
Poor girl, I just smiled real big and said, "That's okay Addison, next time let's go potty first then sing".
This was adorable. Good times.

To unlock or not to unlock

So Addison was playing with some toy keys last night and trying to "unlock" mommys back. She thought it was great. Then she continued by saying "Mommy I am going to unlock your Butt"
Jen responds, "Addison we do not talk like that!"
Addison then says, "Oh...Please can I unlock your Butt?"
Of course at this point I lost it and was laughing my head off. So much for teaching here not to be potty mouth. But at least she knows how to say please.

A Girl Cheese!

Today Jen was getting ready to make lunch and asked Addison "We are going to have grilled cheese sandwiches, would you like one?"

Addison Replied "Yes I want a Girl Cheese, daddy can have a boy cheese!"

Cookie Monster is an adult!

So addison was going to the bathroom today on the "big potty". Apparantly this is really cool, somehow I never knew this. Anyways, I told her she gets to because she is a big girl now. She kept telling me she was little and I was big. So I told her that daddy was an adult. Here is how the rest of the conversation went....
Addison: "Daddy's an adult?"
Daddy: "Yes"
A: "And mommys an adult?"
D: "Yes"
A: "And Keema too?"
D: "No Keema is a little baby and you are a big girl"
A: "Oh", a pause " So Cookie monster is adult too!"really excited.
I didn't really know what to do at this point except laugh and respond "Well, he might be"
Still trying to figure out how Cookie Monster entered the conversation at all. But in case anyone was wondering. Cookie Monster is an adult according to Addison.

Why in the world is my blog named this?

So, after reading my sister in laws blog and laughing too many times to tell, I have finally decided to make a blog about our kids and their funny sayings or doings. Or, maybe even just weird things that happen every now and then. Addison is almost 3 and has been cracking us up lately with things she has said, so we decided to finally update our family and friends on the funny thing a 3 year old can say to us or her 9 month old sister.

First things first. Why did we name our blog SAMNILY??? Well, we told Addison we were going to start blogging about her and Makenna. I asked her, "Addison, what would a good name be for a story about you and Makenna?".
She responds, " S A M N I L Y". Spelling it out of course. Not saying the word.
I sat for a few seconds with a strange look on my face, and then asked her again.
She responds, "S A M N I L Y!"
Jen and I asked her several times and she repeated it the same every time. We were laughing cause we have no idea why this came to her mind. So we name this blog "SAMNILY", and I guess it is all about family.
