Math "problems"
Addison has recently started learning basic addition in school, and if I saw examples of addition in daily activities, I would point it out to her. I had no idea it would backfire though. We stopped at Wendy's on the way home, and she got some Minute to Win it toy that was a cup stacking game. She didn't care about the game itself, but thought all those cups were pretty cool. As we were traveling, she would accidentally drop them from her car seat, sometimes we could reach the cups for her, sometimes not. Instead of complaining about not having her toys, she would say things like, "I dropped my cup! Now I only have 3+4 cups!" or "They're almost all gone! I only have 1+2 cups now!" Why can't you whine normally!
Monkeys are way better than gorillas
One day, Addison stated that she really liked monkeys, but made sure to tell me that she does not like gorillas. Monkeys are o.k. though, but gorillas make thunder like this (hits her chest like Tarzan) and they run at you. I don't know what prompted this observation, but she's made this comment several times since then.
First and Last Names
Apparently, different words have first and last names, at least according to Addison. Here are two examples.
"Did you know that Sonics (Sonic) has two names? It's first name is Son, and it's last name is ics."
"Did you know that our state is Oklenhoma (Oklahoma)? Oklenhoma's first name is Oklen and it's last name is homa."

Dangerous Hamburgers
This is one I kept forgetting to put on here. Shortly before or after Addison's 3rd birthday, we went to McDonald's and Addison got a Happy Meal, but barely ate her burger. She said she wanted to finish it later, so we took it with us. We ran errands and by the time we got home, it was a couple of hours later. We had to throw away the burger, and she asked if she could eat it. I explained that she couldn't because it was yucky now. She whined and begged for it, but I told her if she ate it now, it could hurt her. She said, "But it can't hurt me, it's just a haggumber. Her pronunciation of hamburger is my favorite part.
Dandelion
We had traveled recently, and stopped at a rest area. Addison asked if she could pick a flower (dandelion), and she handed it to me to smell. I smelled it and gave it back to her and told her it was a dandelion. She sighed and gave me a look of complete exasperation and said, "Mommy, my name's not Dan!" I told her to give it to Daddy then.
Magical Bathrooms
We just arrived home after visiting Dan's parents 15 hours away. We drove there and back, so we had many bathroom breaks. Within the past few weeks, Addison's realized that some toilets will flush on their own,so she calls them "magic potties". Throughout the course of our travels, she's realized that there are also magic sinks, soap dispensers, paper towel holders, and hand dryers. Every time I took her to use a public bathroom, she would ask about each item to see if it was "magical". Usually at least one item on her list was magical. The very last bathroom we used was in a smaller gas station and wasn't that fancy. She went through her whole list of items and much to her dismay, nothing was there. She stomped her foot on the ground and said angrily, "This is not a very magical bathroom!"
Addison's Man
Dan picked up Addison to carry her somewhere and Addison looked right up at him and exclaimed, "Daddy! You are my man!"

Addison and the liquor store
There is a liquor store a few minutes from our house that we pass frequently. It is called Blvd. Wine and Spirits with a cluster of grapes in place of the and. We stopped at a red light by the store, and Addison started pointing to it and asking if I could take her there. I asked which store it was just to be sure. She pointed to it and said the one on the end. (Which is the liquor store) I told her, "No, we don't go to those stores". She begged and pleaded for me take here there, she needs to go there, etc. Finally, I asked, "Do you even know what that place is?" She said, "Yes, Mommy, it's Olive Garden. Can't you see the grapes?"
Feeling the baby
This explanation doesn't really have the entire effect. You just had to have been there, but here it is anyway. Although we can't feel the baby kick yet, the girls still love to touch my stomach and say hi to it. Keema usually headbutts me, then just stays on my lap and says, awww. Addison takes a much gentler approach. One day she asked if she could give the baby a high five. She's done it before, and never does it hard, so I told her it was o.k. She started to raise her arm, then took a step back. In a really tiny baby voice, she said, "Wait! The baby is really really tiny, so I better use just one finger." Then proceeded to lightly tap me with one finger.
Addison learns the B word
We were in the car, when Addison piped up from the backseat. Here's how the conversation went.
A: Mommy, is witch a bad word?
Me: No
A: O.K.! Witch! Witch! Witch! Witch!
In the course of her saying that, it sounded like she said the b word.
Me: Wait, wait. Saying witch is o.k. but if you say witch with a b sound at the beginning, that's a bad word. So, wu, wu, w with witch is o.k. But, bu, bu, b with witch is a bad word. So, the word with a w is o.k. but the word with a b is a bad word.
Things were quiet for a few seconds, then in a really sad voice, Addison asked, "Do you mean I can't say butterfly?"

I can't be a princess now!
I took the girls out for ice cream after school as a surprise. The both got it in a cup, (there was a huge mess anyway, oh well. I tried) but Addison wanted hers in a cone. She decided to lick it out of her bowl, like it was a cone. I told her to use her manners when she eats, and told her to eat like a princess. (A phrase I use to get her to eat with better manners) She looked at me and said, "But I can't eat like a princess, I left my costume at home! Keema needs to eat like a gnome though."
Picky Keema
Dan and I have noticed Keema has been giving us problems every now and then when we change her. She would roll over, kick, try to get up, etc. A week or so later, Dan asked if I noticed what Keema does when she goes to the bathroom to get her diaper changed. I told him no, so he told me that she only likes one of the pictures on the diapers that came in the pack. I watched her more closely the next time she got changed, and sure enough, she ran ahead of me, opened the cabinet door, dug through all the diapers, handed me the one she wanted, (the one Dan said she preferred) and sat down to get changed, no problem. The next time, I tried to give her the diaper with the other picture and she struggled. I switched to the diaper she liked, and she settled down. That pack of diapers had tigers on them. She liked the picture of the tiger running, disliked the one with the tiger sitting. The next brand of diapers had Mickey Mouse on them. She did the same thing with those. She prefers the one with a balloon on it. I do not understand this girl sometimes. She is not picky with anything else, just diapers. Weird.
Hey, only my thumb!
Addison recently turned four, and I asked her how old she is now. She held up four fingers to show me, then looked at her hands. She got excited and said, "Hey, I only need my thumb down now!"

Labeled for life
For Halloween, Addison dressed up as Cinderella and Keema dressed up as a garden gnome. I had no idea how much Addison would really think that is who they are. Keema got a set of princess dishes for Christmas and Addison got really upset. She shouted, "No, I'm the princess, those are for me! She's just a gnome!"
Her whole life is planned out.
At the beginning of the year, Addison decided she was going to marry a particular boy in her class. She was going to be a firegirl (like a fireman) and he was going to be a doctor that takes babies out of their mommies at the hospital. They would have one boy named brother. Sadly, it all ended when he shut her finger in the door. She decided not to marry him after that.
WHAT? Moms don't get paid?
I was with the girls in the car on the way to work one morning and Addison asked where Daddy was. I told her he was at work. Addison decided she didn't want to go to school, but wanted to work instead. I told her to enjoy going to school now while she's still young. That wasn't enough, she wanted to go to work. I replied that she needs to go to school, so she can work later and be anything she wants to be. I listed various professions and added that she could also just be a mom, and that being a mom is work, you just don't get paid for it. She got extremely upset, then shouted, "I want to be a mom, and I want to be paid!" Yeah, me too kid.
How big is the baby?
We recently told Addison she is getting a baby brother or sister and I told her the baby is very tiny right now. To show her exactly how tiny, I made a dot on paper with a marker and said the baby is about that size. For about the next week, she drew pictures of the family but with a dot for the baby. So cute!
Oh, Pants!
We spent part of Christmas break with my (Jennifer's) parents. My dad was opening up a present, so Addison ran to "help" him. When it was opened, she saw it was a pair of pants. Addison said, "Oh, pants." She sounded so disappointed and had a look of extreme pity towards my dad that he got pants as a present.
Yay! Coupons!
Addison received a wallet for Christmas. When she looked inside she saw the cards that come in the credit card slots and have the words credit card printed on them. She pulled them out excitedly, and exclaimed, "Look, it came with coupons! I got coupons!" I laughed and thought, yep, better train them up young.
Every now and then, Makenna
I've only now started to realize how many different names Makenna has. Her nickname started off as Keema because when she was born, Addison was two and couldn't say Makenna. Kemma has evolved into Keemster Keems, Keemslice, (which has evolved into Slice, Slicaroni, or Slicaroo), and since she has a bit of a belly, she is also called Bells. The sad thing is she answers to every single one of these.
My feelings are hurt!
A little while ago, Makenna said/did something Addison didn't like. Addison tattled to me, "Mommy, Keema's hurting me on my feelings!"
